Mountainboarding

Closely resembling skateboarding in that riders use a wheeled board, albeit with footbindings and larger sturdier wheels. They also like snowboarders, turn across the hill to check their speed, although some boards are fitted with brakes. Carried out on a specialised track or anywhere the landowner gives permission, the discipline falls into three distinct categories - downhill (on a predesigned track,) freestyle (jumps, ramps tricks etc) and freeriding (basically, find a hill and ride it).
Be careful though, with experienced riders attaining speeds of over 50 mph on downhill runs, a sense of balance is essential!

Want to get started?

There are a good number of mountain boarding centres that have recently set up in Scotland and some are even play host to the ATBA championships (all terrain boarding association)

Where to go:

If you¿re just starting out then its highly recommended to speak to the people in the know. Unlike snowboarding you havent got any of that nice white stuff to fall on to so prepare yourself for a few bumps and scrapes.
