Mountain Biking in Scotland

You could be forgiven for thinking that Scotland was designed with mountain biking in mind. Whether you're interested in exploring our countryside, getting covered in mud, coasting through steep berms, blasting downhill or overcoming a lung-busting climb, there's somewhere in Scotland that will fit the bill.

With Forestry Commission Scotland pumping resources into centre development, there's now a veritable feast of trails to choose from. The 7stanes project should be singled out for a hearty slap on the back. These dedicated centres are now regarded as some of the best in the UK, if not Europe and the increased provision of green-graded trails makes them suitable for all.

But it's not all about the 7stanes. There's an amazing array of centres in the Highlands. Add to this all the natural routes, which criss-cross Scotland, and you've got enough reasons to keep coming back for many years to come!

Where to go:

There are seven fantastic dedicated 7stanes centres in the south of Scotland. Alternatively if you need an adrenaline fix, try the Nevis Range World Cup downhill track. If you've more time to spare and comfortable with navigating in wild places, then explore the breathtakingly beautiful Cairngorms.

Want to get started ?

If you're keen to try our centres or wild routes, remember that mountain biking isn't the same as normal cycling and that it's worth taking some lessons. Request a free copy of our mountain biking guide to find out more.
