Scrambling in Scotland

If you're the kind of walker who likes a get your hands in on the action from time to time, and even experience the feeling of low level rock climbing on your mountain days, then 'scrambling' is a term you will be familiar with. Scrambling routes are usually incorporated into what would otherwise be a hillwalking itinerary, but involve sections that take a slightly more exciting and rocky approach.

The scale of the Scottish mountains and the nature of this ancient, rugged terrain make it a veritable scrambler's paradise, though one that any visitor - and especially the scrambler - must treat with care and respect. From the rough ridges of Skye's Cuillin Ridge to the sheer drama of the North Face of Ben Nevis, Britain's highest mountain, you are spoilt for choice. But unless you are an experienced rock climber, we would always strongly recommend that your introduction to the wonders of Scottish scrambling is in the hands of qualified instructors and guides who know the routes, and how to tackle them.
