Caving/Potholing/ Weaseling

Caving - Potholing - Weaseling in Scotland
On our thoroughly satellite-mapped world, opportunities to set foot where
no-one has ever been before is difficult and this is the essential lure of
caving and weaseling. To be able to fulfil this ambition almost literally
on your doorstep spells adventure of a unique kind, an outdoor pursuit that
uses many other skills - camping, mountaineering, orienteering, diving - as
tools of the trade. It's the ultimate 'wild sport'.
Wriggling scrambling and squirming like a weasel, you enter an underground
labyrinth of tunnels, voids and tight spaces under a jumble of vast
boulders that have lain undisturbed since the ice age.
Want to get started ?
Boots n Paddles and Alpha Mountaineering take you into areas you will have never explored before however there are also a few caving clubs in Scotland - see their respective entries for more information. The premier and oldest caving club in Scotland is the Grampian Speleological Group (GSG), based in Edinburgh but with a national membership. The (GSG) welcomes beginners over the age of 18, and provides trips as 'tasters' before signing up new members. Annual joining subscriptions for GSG are modest. Simply contact them by email at enquiries@gsg.org.uk. There are no full-time commercial caving ventures in Scotland.
