Ski Mountaineering in Scotland

Ever dreamt of leaving the crowds and noise of more conventional ski centres behind? Of ascending remote mountain peaks on skis and of cutting the first tracks during unforgettable descents on virgin powder?

Realise your dreams this winter and give Ski Mountaineering in Scotland a go.

Ski mountaineering is one of the best ways to see Scotland in all it's pristine winter glory. The scenery takes on a whole new look with a dusting of the white stuff.

Where to go:

Only experienced ski mountaineers should consider heading into the mountains without a guide. Avalanches, poor visibility and sudden storms all pose real threats to the inexperienced. Once you have enough experience and are correctly equipped, however, you no longer need to be restricted by the ski centre boundaries - you have the freedom to ski wherever you venture!

Some of the best spots to check out include The Cairngorms National Park, Ben Wyvis and Creag Meagaidh.

Want to get started ?

A number of companies are set up to do this in Scotland. Wilderness Scotland and Glenmore Lodge in Aviemore will teach you all the skills necessary to master the art of ski mountaineering - climbing with skins on skis, avalanche awareness, the science of mountain navigation and, of course, the secrets of successful off-piste skiing.
