White Water Rafting

White Water Rafting in Scotland
Whitewater rafting is perhaps the most popular 'weekend warrior'
adventure sport as it's great for groups of friends who want to
challenge nature and have maximum fun. It involves paddling
downstream in large inflatable self-baling craft specially constructed to
carry up to 8 adrenaline-seeking participants down rivers of varying
difficulty - from the tame (Grade 1) to extreme whitewater (Grade
6).
A river guide who is familiar with the river and its
characteristics expertly guides each boat around and through
obstacles. In fact it's worth keeping in with these guys (and
girls) as they can sometimes determine whether you go for a swim or
not - such is their river knowledge!
Where to go:
Rafting can be enjoyed all year round. If you're looking for something more gentle then try rafting in the height of summer. For thrill seekers, try rafting just after the snow melts in early Spring or after heavy rainfall when many Scottish Rivers raft to grade 4 and 5. Forebodingly named runs such as 'the Weir' and 'Hell-hole corner' hint at the kind of experience that you're likely to expect on some of the higher grades!Want to get started ?
Until recently grade 5 drops and rapids would have been off limits to all but the most experienced kayaker, but a new breed of tough, inflatable rafts and an increase in the number of highly trained guides have made even these invigorating torrents accessible to all.Rafting centres provide all the equipment, apart from swimming gear, a towel and sense of humour. Those you need to bring yourself!
