There are five trails in this wee forest located just a few miles south of Dumfries.

The Phoenix Trail sponsored by Endura is a 12-mile classic woodland trail consisting of challenging climbs, fast-flowing single-track, blinding berms, raised timber trails, log features for the more ambitious, drop-offs, step-ups and burn splashes - everything you could want all packed into one neat trail!

And not forgetting, though only for the very experienced, the legendary Kona Dark Side. This is an extended run of elevated North Shore style timber trails, where the trail width narrows in places to just 10 cms and a there's a gap jump to keep you on your toes!

What we do best:

Mabie forest, where the 7stanes originated and was conceived is the original mountain biking venue in the South West of Scotland and lies just a few miles south of Dumfries. There are trails here for all abilities - Green and Blue trails for novices and families right through to the Phoenix Trail (red) and the Dark Side (black) for the most expert of riders.

With a skills area, café, bike hire and shop on site, it is definitely not to missed.

The 'Kona Dark Side' encompasses 3.8 kilometres of the most demanding, hair-raising North-shore style trails in the UK. These extreme black sections push the boundaries of trail design and will take you to the edge of your riding limits. MBR magazine describe this as 'an evil, twisted trial of balance, nerves and determination' and it's therefore only for experienced and unhinged riders!

Very popular with families, Mabie boasts a big playpark, which is a big hit with the kids. There are also superb green and blue graded routes - the Big Views loop, the Woodhead loop and the Lochbank loop, to cater for budding young and inexperienced riders. Bike hire is available from "The Shed"  contact www.cycle-centre.com or phone 01387 270275 for details.
