Ecosse Mountains is a small mountaineering company run by Kevin Rutherford, a full member of the Association of Mountaineering Instructors and holds the highest UK qualification, the Mountain Instructor Certificate.

Kevin has been walking and climbing in the Scottish mountains for the last 15 years, they inspired him so much that he gave up his desk job 6 years ago and went down the instructor road. As well as climbing in the UK, Kevin has climbed extensively in European Alps. Kevin also works as a trekking guide with recent successful trips to Mount Kenya and Kilimanjaro in Africa and to Nepal climbing Mera Peak and Island Peak.

What we do best:

Intro Rock - This course caters for the novice climber or indoor climber who wishes to venture outside.Teaching will concentrate on sound climbing, belaying and rope management techniques. Climbing will start on single pitch routes with a progression onto multi pitch mountain routes climbing the classics in Glencoe and Lochaber. A reasonable level of fitness would be advisable to get the most out of the course.

Mountain Rock - A course suited to the climber who would like get up to date on techniques, push their grades and get onto the big mountain routes safely. The main focus, climbing the Glencoe and Lochaber 3 star big ones. Centurion HVS, Yo-Yo E1, Hammer HVS, Bludgers Revelation HVS...the list is endless.

North West Rock & Sea Stacks- Old Man of Stoer - The beautiful mountains of Coigach just north of Ullapool hold some of the best sea cliff & mountain crags in Scotland. Stac Pollaidh, Sgurr a Fhidhleir, Ardmair, Reiff and just a bit further north the Old Man of Stoer. A course for the S/VS climber who would like a bit of adventure, push their grade and may venture onto leading themselves. Instruction/ climbing would start on the single pitch routes of Reiff and Ardmair progressing onto the multi pitch routes of Stac Pollaidh and Sgurr a Fhidhleir culminating with an ascent of The Old Man of Stoer.

The Old Man of Hoy - The Old Man of Hoy is undoubtedly the UK's finest sea stack and can be claimed as the UK's most rewarding rock summit at 450ft. The easiest route which is E1 (HVS climbing) ascends the landward face hiding from the full force of the Atlantic. This 2 day trip is one big adventure. Transport - car, 2 ferries & a bus Accomodation - remote Rackwick bothy Bird life, sea life, crashing waves, remoteness and a memorable climb guaranteed! The cost includes all transport to/from Fort William to Rackwick bothy.(car, ferries & bus trip)

Intro Rock 5 days - £320pp

Mountain Rock 5 days - £350pp

NW Rock & Old Man of Stoer 5 days - £350pp

Old Man of Hoy 2 days - £220pp

The courses are very much pitched at your experience and needs which also allows some courses to be run with 1 client, the cost for such a course can be arranged. Individual days guiding can also be arranged at a cost of £170 per day.
