Ecosse Mountains is a small mountaineering company run by Kevin Rutherford, a full member of the Association of Mountaineering Instructors and holds the highest UK qualification, the Mountain Instructor Certificate.

Kevin has been walking and climbing in the Scottish mountains for the last 15 years, they inspired him so much that he gave up his desk job 6 years ago and went down the instructor road. As well as climbing in the UK, Kevin has climbed extensively in European Alps. Kevin also works as a trekking guide with recent successful trips to Mount Kenya and Kilimanjaro in Africa and to Nepal climbing Mera Peak and Island Peak.

Ecosse Mountains guarantees a friendly and professional service.

What we do best:

Summer Mountaincraft - Explore the big Scottish hills in summer safely. This course will cover route planning/finding and navigation, relocating yourself, river crossings, access and kit. Both 3 & 5 day courses will ascend munros on the West coast with an optional camp/bivvi on the 5 day course giving us access to the remoter hills. A confidence boosting course which will enable you to get out there and enjoy the hills on your own. A reasonable level of fitness would be required to get the most out of the course.

Navigation - An intensive training course focusing on route finding and navigation. Navigation can be as complicated or uncomplicated as you like it, but when things start getting rough an easy to remember uncomplicated system of map/contour interpretation, taking a bearing and calculating speed, time and distance is essential. An ideal refresher course for a Summer ML candidate prior to assessment or for the all season walker or mountaineer.
