Forestry Commission Scotland serves as the Scottish Government's forestry department and with its forest management agency, Forest Enterprise Scotland, looks after some 667,000 hectares of the nation's forest estate. This makes the Commission Scotland's largest land manager and biggest provider of outdoor recreation.

What we do best:

We manage the best biking routes in the country including the all the 7stanes mountain bike centres in the south of Scotland. We are also in the process of building more routes in the North of Scotland. We have hosted the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup at Leanachan Forest near Fort William which boasts some cracking downhill and XC routes. Our national forests are home to countless mountain bike events and competitions each year.

Mountain biking has to be the most fun you can have on two wheels and Scotland is just the best place to do it. Who cares about the weather when you are snaking through tight wooded glades or hammering down open landscapes taking in some of the best views mother nature has to offer.

What's great about the sport is that everyone can try it and smiles are guaranteed. You don't have to be an Olympic champion either - just take it as fast or slow as you want. The emphasis is on fun, but before you know it, you'll have toned up those arms and legs and improved your fitness leaps and bounds.

Give it a go - mountain biking is brilliant fun.
