Wilderness Scotland offers walking, sailing, sea-kayaking, canoeing, mountain-biking and ski-mountaineering adventure holidays in the wild places of Scotland. From hotel-based walking holidays to multi-day sea kayaking expeditions around the islands, our trips venture into Scotland's most pristine and beautiful wilderness areas, providing our clients with an unforgettable experience.
You will experience oustanding scenery, stay in some wonderful places (be it small hotels or wild camps), enjoy sumptuous local produce and learn about the Highlands through stories shared by our knowledge guides. You can also be assured that your holiday has been designed in an environmentally sensitive manner - we hold the Gold Award in the Green Tourism Business Scheme.
What we do best:
Join us for a 3 night unique adventure at the heart of the Cairngorms, where you will experience the sensation of sleeping in a snow-hole which you have helped dig! The high massif of the Cairngorms is the ideal venue for our winter long-weekend, with a good snow record and many excellent slopes for learning ice-axe arrests. The rolling plateau also offers some fantastic locations for digging snow-holes, providing our accommodation for one memorable night! The expedition is based from a private hostel within the beautiful Mar Estate, situated right at the foot of the mountains, where you will spend two comfortable and relaxing evenings after hard days on the hills and then a third night will be spent in a snow-hole. All meals are included. In the company of one of Scotland?s top guides, you will initially focus on essential ice axe and crampon winter skills before moving on to complete a circular high-level walk with stunning views across the Cairngorm massif. On the snow-holing day, you will trek into the heart of the Cairngorm range where your guide will teach you the best methods for constructing a snow-hole. Once settled in, you will spend a night that will live long in your memory ? snow-holes are a wonderful and surprisingly cosy place to spend a night. This long weekend is the perfect winter break for keen walkers looking for that ?something special and a little bit different? and who want to expand their mountain experience. No previous winter walking experience is necessary for these trips but you should have a good level of fitness.Travel Directions
