Skiing & Snowboarding in Scotland

A hare in winter colours in The Cairngorms credit Bob Kinnaird www.cairngormmountain.org Days of skiing and snowboarding at Scotland's five snowsports resorts - Glenshee, Glencoe Mountain, CairnGorm Mountain, Nevis Range and The Lecht - are precious. When the snow falls - and, on still more precious days, the sun shines - then the sport to be had is on par with with the Alps.

When it happens, the experience of skiing on pristine white powder snow, against a backdrop of dramatic Scottish mountains is incomparable and will provide happy memories for many years to come.

The 2007/08 season saw some fantastic conditions (as you can see from the pictures above and left) at many of the Scottish centres and wintersports were available right into April and May with midweek slopes very quiet.

Scotland is a great place for ski and boarding novices, who want to try snowsports before committing to the high cost of a holiday overseas, due to the proximity of the resorts to centres of population, not only Scottish but UK too. Snowsports are a great way to get fit and get some fresh air and there's a great social scene available at the end of the day too.

And even if there's a thaw there are still plenty of other adventure sports for you to try to keep you outdoors on a Scottish winter break.
